More details are emerging around the post-match brawl between Lecce and Verona, which saw coach Roberto D’Aversa attempt to headbutt Thomas Henry.
This was a relegation dogfight at the Stadio Via del Mare and Henry certainly raised the temperature when coming off the bench as a late substitute in the 1-0 Verona victory.
He was booked for going head-to-head with Marin Pongracic, then told off again by the referee as they continued to bicker off the ball.
At the final whistle, the situation erupted, as Henry was arguing with Pongracic, but then Lecce coach D’Aversa was caught on camera walking over to Henry and attempting to aim a headbutt at the striker.
Henry went down briefly, more in surprise than anything else, then immediately went after D’Aversa and had to be restrained by several teammates and members of staff.
The Verona striker was livid and was shouting abuse at various people, while also making gestures that people were ‘scared’ to face him.
The referee showed red cards to both Henry and D’Aversa.
