Nizaar Kinsella is no longer exclusively a Chelsea correspondent, but he spent the last ten years watching the Blues for various media outlets, so he remains a top authority on the team in that period.

He’s at the Bridge today to watch Chelsea against Nottingham Forest, and he’s just made a very flattering – but very apt – comparison for Cole Palmer. The attacking midfielder has had a quiet start to the game – he often does. Much like Leo Messi, there’s a sense that he likes to just feel the game out in the early stages, saving energy while finding the faults in the defensive line and sounding out his opposition, but always ready to strike with a decisive left foot at any moment.

But despite not being involved much, the crowd were just watching and waiting for him to get on the ball.

“You could hear the atmosphere rise a little bit when Palmer received the ball for the first time even though he was 40 yards from goal,” Nizaar commented on the early stages of the game.

“Not heard that for a Chelsea player since probably Eden Hazard,” he continued. He’s not wrong.

Palmer elevated among the greats

So that’s Palmer compared to Leo Messi, Eden Hazard and Cristiano Ronaldo all in the same day… if you were wondering what sort of form he’s in, and what sort of mood there is at Chelsea right now, there’s your answer!
