Africa Cup of Nations debutants Comoros did well to make it out of their group and into the knockout stages.
But things are about to get much tougher for the East African nation.
Not only are they facing tournament hosts Cameroon in the last 16, but they must do so without a recognised goalkeeper.
Their usual first choice goalkeeper Salim Ben Boina is out injured after being stretchered off in the win over Ghana, while the other two goalkeepers in the squad ā Moyadh Ousseini and Ali Ahamada ā have both tested positive for Covid.
A total of seven Comoros players are Covid positive but AFCON rules state that if you have 11 available players, you must fulfil your fixtures.
Meaning Comoros must play the biggest match in their history with an outfield player between the sticks.
āWeāve already chosen an outfield player who will start as keeper,ā said Comoros assistant manager Daniel Padovanni.
āItās a player who in training has shown that he can play as a keeper.ā
