Sergio Conceicao has given his first interview as the new head coach of AC Milan, revealing a sense of pride but also immense responsibility.
It has been a rollercoaster 24 hours at Milan, who went into the 1-1 draw against Roma last night with Paulo Fonseca in charge, but will go into 2025 with a new manager.
The Portuguese was sacked and replaced very quickly by his compatriot, who flew into Italy this morning and took his first training session at Milanello this afternoon.
There is not much time to work for Conceicao after meeting the squad, given that they fly out to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana tomorrow. The semi-final is against Juventus on January 3.
The new boss was interviewed by Milan TV just after he led his first session along with his staff, and his words have been transcribed below.
“I’m proud to take on this adventure. The emotions are temporary because we need to work. We need a warm heart and a cool head to do our best and win matches. That’s what we want,” he said.
“We represent a great club, on a global level, and we need to be worthy of this great club. We don’t have much time, but that’s absolutely not an excuse.

“With the time at my disposal, I have to do my best so the players understand what they need to do, first as individuals and then as a team, to be the best we can in every single game.
“There is no other road, there is a lot of work to be done with them. We’ll need a strong mentality, and with strong organisation and the players’ quality, we’ll do good things this year. Words are just words, I need to prove myself with results.
“For that, we’ll need a great effort from everyone, not just the players but all the staff who make up the Milanello facility. We’re here to work, what I need to tell the fans is that we’ll work a lot and become a winning side, become a team worthy of this great club.”
