Manchester United left it all on the pitch – and then some – when they took to Anfield last night.
A four-goal thriller culminated with the points being shared between the two rivals on Merseyside, and for the first time in a long time, United left the stadium feeling like they could’ve had more.
Liverpool were far from their best throughout the 90 minutes but did jolt into gear after Lisandro Martinez’s opener. Even still, the only way they were able to take the lead was through Matthijs de Ligt handling the ball inside the area, which resulted in Mohamed Salah converting his effort from the spot.
A late equaliser from Amad Diallo in the 80th minute primed the sides for an end-to-end finale, though neither was able to clinch a winner when all was said and done.

While Ruben Amorim would be right to feel aggrieved at not reigning victorious on Sunday evening, it was evident for all to see that there were vast improvements made across the pitch for United. Pundits and fans have deemed it the best performance of his tenure yet, hence giving him and his players something to build from for the second half of the campaign.
Two potential blows Amorim may have to navigate, however, have come in the form of both Rasmus Hojlund and De Ligt potentially being injured.
Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall took to X/Twitter after the match to report: “Rasmus Hojlund limped through the mixed zone at Anfield and Matthijs de Ligt leaving with what looked like ice strapped to his lower leg.”
Neither Red covered themself in glory during their time on the pitch, so it remains to be seen if they’d have been given the nod when United travel to the Emirates in six days’ time for a third-round FA Cup tie against Arsenal.
