Antonio Conte got a few things off his chest after Napoli beat Juventus, complaining that ‘some think we defend and counter, that others are prettier, perfumed…’
The Partenopei consolidated their status as the Serie A leaders with a 2-1 victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
They had been trailing at half-time to the goal from Randal Kolo Muani, making his debut following the transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, only for the Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa header and Romelu Lukaku penalty to turn it around.
Conte had already mentioned some irritation during his post-match interview with DAZN, noting that “elsewhere people comment as if they are always nicer and even sweet-smelling, but Napoli play a European style of football and I am fully satisfied.”

At the press conference, the coach further discussed his frustration at what he feels is an insulting view of his style.
“The intensity we saw today was that of a European match, with a high tempo and pressure all over the pitch. We took some risks, but there are still some who say we only play with a deep defence and counter-attack. It feels like I’m dreaming or something.
“They make it look like the others are prettier, more groomed, even perfumed…”
Thiago Motta was brought in at Juventus primarily for the more attractive, possession-based style of football that he had at Bologna last season.
Meanwhile, Inter are the reigning Champions of Italy and Atalanta have earned praise for their innovative tactical approach under Gian Piero Gasperini.
In the press conference, Conte was also asked if he thought Khvicha Kvaratskhelia had watched the game before making his debut for Paris Saint-Germain.
“We can only wish Kvara and his family all the best. He made his choice, I just didn’t like that his agents were negotiating with PSG for a long time,” replied Conte.
“We go on, nobody is indispensable.”
