This season has been one to forget for AC Milan, and this much does not really need to be said. In almost every situation, the Rossoneri have fallen short, but the fault is not with the new head coach.

It has been a season where the finger has been pointed everywhere, the blame lies with the coach, the players, the management, everyone. Arguably, the fact that there is not one sole fault in this season serves as a larger worry.

Nevertheless, there is still hope for the season within the club, and Sergio Conceicao has attempted to rally his players publically after their latest setback. However, the impact of his words now must be shown, for his and his players’ sake.

Speaking to La Repubblica after Milan’s elimination from the Champions League, the Milanista spoke about the ‘relapse’ of Italian football and the future of Conceicao, and Milan News have relayed his words.

“A year ago we Italians seemed to be the masters of Europe, now we are licking our wounds. But that was not the Risorgimento and this is not a relapse into the Middle Ages. The elimination of Milan, Atalanta and Juve was just a collective injury.”

A month and a half has passed since the Riyadh cigar match. How do you judge Conceiçao’s work?

“Ditto as above. He [Conceicao] needs time and players who are up to the job. The role of coaches is often overestimated, and their ability to determine the climate in the locker room. Pippo Inzaghi was bad before matches, not good. Yet he scored like nobody else.”
