With the January transfer window opening in just a few days Manchester City continue to be linked with a host of players. Several areas of Pep Guardiola’s squad need reinforcing. One of those appears to be in the final third. With that in mind, City has now been linked with a January move for AS Monaco starlet Maghnes Akliouche. The young French playmaker could add something different to City’s play if they did move for him next month.

Jason Pettigrove has reported for CaughtOffside that Manchester City have an interest in signing AS Monaco starlet Maghnes Akliouche next month.  Furthermore, Pettigrove reports that RB Leipzig, Newcastle United, PSG, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Napoli and Roma all have an interest in signing the talented young player. But Pettigrove’s report indicates that Manchester City have the most concrete interest in Akliouche. Lastly, Pettigrove adds that Monaco has set an asking price of €60 million for their prized asset.

Maghnes Akliouche would add something completely different to Manchester City’s play.

Maghnes Akliouche has had an impressive season so far for Monaco. Playing primarily on the right wing for Monaco he has scored 4 goals and added 5 assists in 21 appearances in all competitions. Those statistics don’t immediately jump off the page but the way Akliouche plays does.

The AS Monaco starlet plays primarily on the right wing. Although he can play on the left wing or through the middle. He has elite dribbling ability which makes him a handful for defenders. He also has an eye for goal which is something that Manchester City are screaming out for. There is also an intelligence to Akliouche’s play. His tactical ability is such that he appears to have a maturity in his game that is well beyond his age. The French youth international also has a high work rate and is good at pressing Monaco’s opponents. Those are attributes that would aid Pep Guardiola’s squad. That, coupled with his incredible technical ability, makes him a player who Manchester City could look to add next month.

Manchester City do appear set to have a busy January transfer window. AS Monaco starlet Maghnes Akliouche could be a player they target next month to add something different to their attack. That is now a story to watch for when the January transfer window opens in just a few days time.
