Blackpool have been linked with a move for Manchester City starlet Morgan Rogers.

According to the Blackpool Gazette, Neil Critchley’s side are set to revive their interest in the 19-year old.

An unsuccessful attempt to bring the player to Bloomfield Road in January has now led to speculation that the club is looking to go back in for the winger.

Here, we ask our FLW writers their verdict on whether the former Bournemouth loanee would be a good fit for the Tangerines…

Ned Holmes

This could work really well for all parties.

Morgan Rogers’ spell at Bournemouth clearly didn’t work out but I still think he’s a player ready to have a real impact at Championship level and he could get the chance to do that at Blackpool.

He was fantastic at Lincoln City in 2020/21 and if he can get back to that level, he could be a real asset for the second-tier side next season.

Rogers has a bright future ahead of him but regular football is what he needs now and in Neil Critchley, who made his name in Liverpool’s youth system, they have a coach that Manchester City should feel they can trust.

This could be the ideal fit.

Morgan Rogers would be a good signing for Blackpool as they look to push further up the Championship next season building on the good work they’ve done this season.

He’s done a good job with Bournemouth on loan this season scoring once in 15 appearances for the Cherries. However, he didn’t get game time under Scott Parker in the second half of the season.

Therefore, a move to Blackpool would make sense for him as he aims to nail down a place in the side and play regular football. Furthermore, despite his lack of game time this season he proved he was a good player with versatility to play on either side with Lincoln City in League One.

With that in mind, this move would give him a chance to prove himself at this level as well as giving the Tangerines the opportunity to help the 19-year-old develop his game further as he helps their attacking efforts.

Marcus Ally

Neil Critchley has had an excellent record of developing attacking players in recent years and has a respectable background in the youth system at Liverpool, which suggests he could improve a player like Morgan Rogers.

The 19-year-old managed just one league start at Bournemouth on loan from Manchester City, where he has two years remaining on his contract, this season in what was a poor choice of move from his parent club.

Rogers showed his class and clear potential in the second half of 2020/21 at Lincoln City, and the Championship is certainly where he should be playing at this stage of his career.

Potentially to cope with the loss of Josh Bowler this summer, Rogers would be a very smart addition at Bloomfield Road, after the Tangerines decided against triggering the option to buy clause in Charlie Kirk’s loan move from Charlton Athletic.
