Wow, you know things are going badly when you see rumours like this starting to crop up.
Wind the clock back to just November and you had the smug briefs coming out that Chelsea regard Nicolas Jackson as one of the top 3 strikers in the league.
It was hard to argue with at the time – he was in fine form, was scoring for fun, and looked to have added goals to the rest of his game, which had been impressive from his first games here.
But since then Jackson’s fortunes have faded, Chelsea have spiralled, and now we’re reading quite sincere transfer rumours linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge. The Sun say that Atletico Madrid are plotting an ambitious move, and will face competition from Newcastle and Aston Villa.
Is that really where Chelsea are right now, having their players linked with those sorts of teams? Oh how the tables turn.

Jackson may be on a horrifying run of 1 goal in 10 games, but we’re still not believing he’s going anywhere, not this summer anyway. We’ve all seen his potential and what he does offer, what he needs is support not a sale.
The idea that the sporting directors would sell one of their few transfer market successes off is madness to – their whole CV is resting on Jackson and Cole Palmer right now. Selling teams who are competing with us to get into the top 4 a striker is the last thing we want to do.
The Senegal star now faces 2 months out with a hamstring injury, and will need to be eased back in gently after that. We may find that we only really start to appreciate him now that he’s out.
