Crystal Palace could make some late signings in the January transfer window, and Oliver Glasner wants a new centre-back at Selhurst Park.
After a poor start to the 2024/25 season, Palace are steadily progressing and they have jumped to 13th in the Premier League table.
At one point, the Eagles were in the relegation zone, and Glasner’s future came under scrutiny. But Palace have turned it around, and they are now aiming for a top-half finish.
According to BBC journalist Alex Howell, Palace are interested in signing centre back Tiago Djalo on loan to increase their options at centre-back.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Porto from Juventus, where he made 11 appearances and scored two goals.
The deal looks complicated as Juventus first need to terminate the loan deal with Porto and then arrange another loan move to Palace.
Signing a new defender has become a priority for Palace after losing Chadi Riad to a long-term injury.
Marc Guehi, Chris Richards, and Maxence Lacroix remain three major options for Glasner after Chelsea recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell.
Riad has picked up an ACL injury and it has altered Crystal Palace’s plans for the winter market. The Eagles wanted to sign an attacker and a left wing-back to bolster Oliver Glasner’s squad and have signed Romain Esse from Millwall, who has made an instant impact for them.
Palace are also keen to sign Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, who will be allowed to leave the club in the January window.
Meanwhile, Palace have suffered another huge injury blow, with midfielder Cheick Doucoure now looking set to be out for up to six months after suffering a serious meniscus injury in training.
