CSD president hits back at La Liga chief over Olmo registration case – ‘He’s just wrong’

The clash between La Liga and the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD) over the registration of Barcelona Dani Olmo and Pau Victor has escalated.
Earlier today, La Liga announced it had appealed against the CSD’s resolution, which backed Barcelona’s initial appeal to keep the duo registered. The dispute stems from a bureaucratic error tied to how the registrations were initially denied.
Speaking to Josep Pedrerol on El Chiringuito TV, CSD president Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes broke down the legal reasoning behind the decision.
“We ruled on an appeal by Barça and the players based on strictly legal criteria,” Uribes explained. “This wasn’t about opinions – it was a matter of law.”
According to Uribes, the core issue was a procedural misstep by La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
“It is not a minor issue. In law, procedure is key. If the proper channels aren’t followed, the decisions lose their validity,” he said.
That misstep, he admitted, was likely what allowed Olmo to play: “The formal error is what put Olmo on the pitch.”

Pedrerol pressed Uribes on whether he thought La Liga president Javier Tebas was being stubborn. Uribes didn’t hold back:
“It’s not that he’s stubborn, he’s just wrong. It makes no sense to persist if things have not been done properly.”
When asked if Olmo wouldn’t be playing had La Liga and RFEF followed protocol correctly, Uribes responded:
“Probably not. We don’t have the authority to override LaLiga or RFEF on financial fair play. Our ruling is strictly about procedure.”
Pedrerol quipped that Olmo might be playing because of Tebas’ mistake. Uribes, laughing, agreed: “Seen that way, yeah, probably.”
Another key conflict is whether Barça met the conditions to register the players in time.
“La Liga admitted the club met them on January 3, not December 31. Now they’re walking that back,” Uribes said.
On whether a court could overturn the CSD decision, Uribes was firm: “If the court says otherwise, we’ll respect that. We always uphold the rule of law.”
With the legal battle ongoing and the season nearing its end, one thing is clear: for now, Olmo and Pau Victor remain eligible to play, backed by a resolution that could still be overturned in court.
