Nick Cushing says he and his players have enjoyed our inaugural World Sevens tournament.

City reached the semi-finals and then contested a third place play-off in Estoril, losing out to PSG to end as the fourth placed team overall.

Over the past two days Cushing’s side have played Rosengard, Ajax, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and PSG

“It was really exciting, there was a lot of attacking football and it was really competitive,” said Cushing.

“Personally, I like the format, and I think it should stay - it's exciting for the fans and the players and I see no reason why it shouldn't be part of the calendar.

“I think it suits the attacking players more - it’s fast and physical and great to watch.

“It allows players to play with freedom – almost like when they were kids – because wherever you are you are on the pitch, you’re always close to the goal and our players have really enjoyed it.”

Asked if the World Sevens showcased women’s football positively, Cushing added: “It has highlighted we have some really talented players who are both technical and gifted - the level of competition in the women's game is really strong and that can only be a good thing.”
