Czarni Antrans Sosnowiec earned their 13th Women’s Puchar Polski on Thursday evening. Goals from Nikol Kaletka, Agnieszka Jędrzejewicz, and a Martyna Wiankowska brace, gave them a 4-0 victory over Śląsk Wrocław in Puławy.
Despite having lost their chance at the Ekstraliga title at the weekend, Czarni entered the game as strong favourites to retain their title. Śląsk, meanwhile, currently sit sixth in the league, and had surprised many in reaching this stage of the competition. They had defeated league champions TME UKS SMS Łódź in the semi-finals.
Even without injured midfielder Joanna Wróbelska, Śląsk stated brightly. Only strong defending from the Czarni back line, and a good save from keeper Anna Szymańska – taking part in her FIFTEENTH successive Polish Cup final – prevented them from taking the lead.
After finally gaining a grip on the game, and going close through Polish international Kaletka, Czarni took the lead on the 20th minute mark. Fellow Orlice Wiankowska advanced into the Śląsk penalty area, before firing a left-footed shot past Anna Bocian.
Czarni doubled their advantage early in the second half through Kaletka’s cool finish, while Wiankowska bagged her second of the final with a fine free-kick with just over twenty minutes remaining.
Finally, ten minutes from time, substitute Agnieszka Jędrzejewicz rounded up the scoring by chipping the ball over the stranded Bocian.
