Having had a chance to log some minutes and readjust to footballing life back in his native country, former German national team midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud spoke on his joy at being back in an interview published in the Monday print edition of Kicker Magazine.
His wayward tour of duty on the Isle (not to mention the Syrian national team) behind him, new Eintracht Frankfurt summer addition Mahmoud Dahoud wasted no time in proclaiming that he was very pleased to both be back in his home country and potentially have the chance to represent it once again. Eintracht trainer Dino Toppmöller has, surprisingly enough, given Dahoud plenty of early chances to prove himself. The 28-year-old has played the full second half of Frankfurt's last two league fixtures as a sub. Dahoud has also started both SGE Europa League fixtures thus far this year.
In an interview published in the Monday print edition of Germany's preeminent footballing publication, Kicker Magazine, Dahoud made no effort to hide from the fact that one of his personal mistakes led directly to a Bayern goal in the wild 3-3 draw just prior to the international break. His ill-fated loan stint with Stuttgart last spring (14 relief appearances and only one start) didn't really accord him the chance to get back into a Bundesliga rhythm. At the very least, that now has changed.
"It's not easy to come in against Bayern," Dahoud noted in the interview, "The game has its own rhythm, and you need a few minutes to get up to speed. I realized that. But that's no excuse. I made a mistake and must be responsible for getting into the game right away.”
"I feel very comfortable here and no longer feel as if I need to catch up," he nevertheless continued, "[my stint at Brighton] taught me how to have to fend for myself."
"It's a different world over there," Dahoud concluded, "both on and off the pitch. I'm very happy to be back in Germany. The atmosphere, the facilities, and the mood inside the stadiums. We're spoiled in the Bundesliga."
