Former Premier League striker Darren Bent believes Nicolas Jackson is perfect for the way Chelsea are playing under Enzo Maresca this season.

The Italian replaced Mauricio Pochettino over the summer having guided Leicester to the Championship title last season, and signed a five year contract at the club.

The 44-year-old has surprised many with the start to life he’s made at Stamford Bridge and the Blues currently sit third in the Premier League.

Bent believes Jackson is perfect for Maresca’s style of football

In a short space of time Maresca has been able to implement an identity and style of play, two things that were lacking last season, although there’s still plenty of room for improvement.

A number of players have improved under Maresca’s guidance already including Levi Colwill, Moises Caicedo and Jackson.

Jackson has scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 league games this season, and Martin Keown has described him as one of the most feared strikers in the league.

The 23-year-old’s finishing looks liked it’s improved and he’s started every league game this season, and is keeping Christopher Nkunku out of the side.

Maresca has stated how happy he is with Jackson and Bent believes the Senegal international is perfect for how Chelsea want to play and could be Chelsea’s answer at centre forward.

“Yeah, I think so,” he told talkSPORT.

“There’s still more quality out there, of course. But, certainly the way that they’re playing, he seems perfect for it.”

The Senegalese brings a lot to the team with his all round play, and whilst Nkunku is a better finisher he doesn’t bring any where near as much overall as Jackson does.

With the games coming thick and fast in the build-up to Christmas it will be interesting to see how Maresca rotates between the pair, and whether it makes any difference to how the Blues play.
