Liverpool’s summer transfer activity is already taking shape, with key positions under scrutiny. Speaking on the Transfer Market Metrics podcast by Anfield Index, Dave Davis and Phil Barter broke down potential targets, with Jeremie Frimpong emerging as a name that won’t go away.
“There are links galore,” Davis noted. “Attackers, defenders, midfielders – they’re coming in all shapes and sizes.” Yet, the standout discussion was around the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back, with Barter reinforcing the growing momentum: “Frimpong is the one I keep coming back to.”
With Arne Slot set to stamp his philosophy at Anfield, the tactical fit of any new signing is critical. Barter was quick to highlight Frimpong’s appeal: “If you want someone who fits into that attacking wing-back role, look no further.” His dynamism in Leverkusen’s high-intensity system under Xabi Alonso suggests he could thrive in Liverpool’s evolving setup.
Davis further emphasised Frimpong’s unique attributes: “He’s not just quick; his attacking numbers are unreal.” The Dutch international has been a major creative force in the Bundesliga, registering an impressive goal contribution tally from a wide role.
Speculation is one thing, but Liverpool’s ability to get a deal done is another. “It always comes down to price and priority,” Davis stated. While no official bids have been lodged, Frimpong’s reported €40 million release clause makes him an attainable option should Liverpool move decisively.
Barter added a crucial point: “If Liverpool see him as the right profile, they will act.” With the right-back position demanding reinforcements and the player’s attacking prowess being a natural fit for Slot’s system, the potential of a deal happening remains a genuine possibility.
While nothing is confirmed, the Transfer Market Metrics podcast discussion made one thing clear—Frimpong would be a high-value, high-impact signing for Liverpool. “If this happens, Liverpool fans should be very excited,” Davis concluded.
As the summer window nears, the links will only intensify. For now, Frimpong’s name remains firmly in the conversation.
