Dean Huijsen impressed in the two international matches he played with Spain against the Dutch national team, causing the top clubs in Europe to note down the AFC Bournemouth man on transfer shortlists across the continent. According to De Telegraaf, Chelsea hope to trump Real Madrid in the battle for the central defender.
The famous Dutch daily gets its information from Spanish radio outlet, Cadena SER. The source suggests that the Madrid team didn’t initially have the intention to strengthen themselves with a central defender for next summer, but the 19-year-old Huijsen has changed their opinions.
Even before his performances with Spain against Oranje, Real had allegedly inquired with Bournemouth about the possibilities for Amsterdam-born La Roja international.
The 6 ft 6 defender still has a contract until the summer of 2030, but it is said to include a release clause of 60 million euros. According to Spanish AS, Donny Huijsen has already visited Real Madrid for an exploratory meeting, but Liverpool, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are all among clubs interested in Dean’s signature.
Chelsea are another prime candidate. The West London club would reportedly be prepared to pay the buyout fee demanded by Bournemouth and would even offer more in salary than Real Madrid. That said, Huijsen himself previously indicated that he is proud to be linked to Real Madrid.
