Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson has given his verdict on Romain Esse after the Premier League match against Brentford at Selhurst Park.

Palace took on Brentford in the London derby on Sunday. The Eagles lost the match 2-1.

After a goalless first half, Bryan Mbeumo put the Bees in the lead in the 66th minute from the penalty spot.

Kevin Schade doubled Brentford’s advantage in the 80th minute when he headed home a cross from Mikkel Damsgaard.

Palace halved the deficit for Palace in the 85th minute when Romain Esse scored.

The 19-year-old, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, found the back of the net with a tap-in at the back post.

The teenager came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute for Will Hughes.

It was his debut for Palace, and he scored with his first touch for the Eagles, impressing his teammate and Eagles goalkeeper Henderson.

BBC Sport quotes Henderson as saying about Esse: “I’m delighted for him to get off the mark in this first game. he looks a bright spark and hopefully there are many more to come.”

Esse joined Premier League club Palace from Championship side Millwall only last week. The Eagles paid an initial £12 million for the teenager (The London Evening Standard).

The 19-year-old is one of the best young players around, and he could be a star for Palace in the coming days.

Esse scored four goals and gave one assist in 24 Championship matches for Millwall this season before his move to Palace.

The youngster found the back of the net twice in six starts and 19 substitute appearances in the Championship for Millwall last season.

Palace do give chances to young players and allow them time and afford them patience to patience.

The Eagles are 12th in the Premier League table at the moment with 27 points from 23 matches. The London club are likely to finish the season in mid-table.
