Denis Zakaria (27) was forced to withdraw from Sunday’s Côte d’Azur derby encounter against OGC Nice. The Swiss international was named in the starting line-up but never set foot on the pitch.
Instead, it was Soungoutou Magassa who lined up alongside Lamine Camara at the base of AS Monaco’s midfield. Magassa struggled throughout the first half before being substituted at halftime, following Vanderson’s red card, which required a change in shape.
Les Monégasques went on to lose 2-1 against their fierce rivals. Zakaria was a big miss and post-match, Adi Hütter explained his absence. “He was really unlucky, in the warm-up. He took a shot and was then injured in the adductor. It was a high risk to let him play. He complained a lot so we had to reduce the risk. I wouldn’t let him play and it was the right decision,” revealed Hütter in a post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News.
It remains to be seen whether Zakaria will be fit enough to face SCO Angers on Friday night as Monaco look to return to winning ways.
