That's according to German outlet Bild, who speculate that the Rams scout was in attendance to monitor Madgeburg duo Martijn Kaars and Livan Burcu.

However, according to the report, Derby County refused to provide any concrete information about the players who they were there to watch.

According to the Bild article, the German paper contacted the Derby County official following the match regarding their presence at Sunday's 2. Bundesliga match between FC Madgeburg and SV Darmstadt 98.

The Derby scout responded simply, telling Bild: "I can't say."

The promotion challenging Madgeburg side ran out 4-1 winners at Avnet Arena, despite going into half-time a goal down.

It meant that Madgeburg closed the gap between themselves and Hamburger SV at the top of the division to one point, as the title race in Germany's second division continued to heat up.

Despite the Derby scout revealing little to the German press following their approach, Bild conjectures that Derby may be interested in two of Madgeburg's premiere attacking outlets, top-scorer Martijn Kaars and wide-man Livan Burcu, who have caught the eye of foreign sides recently.

The Bild article reports that it's "no secret" that both Livan Burcu and Martijn Kaars have been attracting interest from clubs outside Germany in recent weeks, with the duo being major players in the side who top the scoring charts in the 2. Bundesliga.

25-year-old Dutchman Martijn Kaars has settled in well in his first season in Germany following a move from Dutch second division side Helmond Sport. He's netted the joint-most goals in the division with 16, including a four-goal rout against Schalke 04 in February. He's also managed six assists in the league this season, too.

20-year-old Livan Burcu, currently on loan from Bundesliga side Union Berlin, has started to hit form recently, with one goal and four assists in his last five games.

If Derby County had sent a scout out to monitor the progress of the attacking pairing on Sunday, they'd have been happy with what they saw, as both men got on the scoresheet in their 4-1 win over Darmstadt 98.

After excelling in the second division in Germany, it could be a possibility that this duo may be given an opportunity to excel at Derby County next season.
