Derby County goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith has urged the Rams to beat Oxford United on Friday to send a message to every team in the division that they are ready for the challenge.
The Rams are unbeaten in League One since their last defeat in October and have climbed to fourth place in the league table with 43 points from 23 games.
On Friday, they will visit fifth-placed Oxford United, who defeated Derby earlier in the season, at Pride Park.
Wildsmith stated that they are aware that Oxford will prove to be a tough test for them, but stressed that they are determined to take revenge for their defeat at home in August.
The Rams goalkeeper added that they will take confidence from their recent performances and stated Derby’s aim to announce that they are ready for any challenge by defeating Des Buckingham’s side on their own patch.
“They lost a manager and they have had a little sort of blip in results, but they got back to winning ways today [Tuesday], so it will be a tough game, especially down at their place”, Wildsmith told Rams TV.
“We are obviously taking big confidence in going out unbeaten there.
“We sort of want to correct the wrongs that obviously happened at our place, get the three points against them and keep us, like I say, moving in the right direction going into the new year and really put ourselves in a really good position in the league to show everyone that Derby County are here and we are up for the challenge.”
Now it remains to be seen whether Paul Warne’s side will be able to finish December unbeaten in the league by securing points from Oxford.
