AC Milan will be without Theo Hernandez this weekend due to his red card against Fiorentina, and the question still remains about who will take his place.

Since Theo’s dismissal, there have been several questions asked about the left-back position. Most notably looking at the future of it, due to the Frenchman’s ongoing contract standstill. However, we must look at the present, at least for now.

The Frenchman will not be able to play this weekend – against Udinese – or against Bologna in just over 10 days. He will be able to play against Club Brugge on Tuesday, though. Regardless of this, there is a decision to make about his replacement.

Questions have been asked about which player will be given the nod, with the Rossoneri lacking a ‘proper’ deputy, and there have been questions about whether Paulo Fonseca will follow Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s words.

Nevertheless, Peppe Di Stefano has commented on the matter, and his words have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“A number of national players have returned, including Chukwueze who will undergo instrumental examinations this afternoon. Pulisic has also returned and Pochettino has been very clever. Given the Nigerian’s injury, he knew that the former Chelsea player would be squeezed even more by AC Milan and therefore avoided him in the match against Mexico.

“Fofana, Reijnders, Theo Hernandez and Maignan also returned, but they will only return to work tomorrow. I complete the list with Morata, Leao, Pavlovic and Musah, who will instead be used tonight. Incidentally, the only goal scored by a Milan player in this break was the latter.

“Milan trained today but the management wasn’t there, Ibra wasn’t there. Ruben Loftus-Cheek trained separately, it will happen again tomorrow. The idea is to have him back in the group just in time for the Udinese game, then we’ll see if he’ll start or not.

“Calabria is still apart, Marco Sportiello is recovering more and more his condition, even if it’s difficult to see him as a deputy Maignan already in Saturday’s match, but there are good chances that he could return soon.

We go towards the usual Milan, in place of Theo Hernandez disqualified should play Terracciano, although Jimenez is very well.”
