France national team manager Didier Deschamps is set to announce on Wednesday he will not renew his contract as France manager and therefore leave Les Bleus after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a report this Tuesday from L’Equipe. it is a seismic although logical decision considering the former Juventus and Chelsea midfielder spearheaded France for fourteen years. Deschamps replaced Laurent Blanc in the aftermath of the Euro 2012.

With France, Deschamps won the 2018 World Cup and lost two major finals in the Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup. Deschamps also won the 2021 Nations League and he will have the opportunity to win it again with Les Bleus set to face Croatia in the quarter-finals next March.

L’Equipe understands that Deschamps’ decision to leave his post upon the expiry of his contract was made long ago, but he felt the moment was ripe to announce it now to clear the air regarding his future as France coach. The outlet adds that Deschamps will announce his departure as part of a cross-interview with France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron, for Les Pièces Jaunes, a well-known charity in France whose goal is to improve the conditions of hospitalized children.
