Flamengo manager Dorival Júnior has dismissed concerns over the form and fitness of midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
The Uruguay international has played an incredible amount of football this year, and has huge games coming up at both club and international levels.
He was yet again below par in the Rubro-Negro’s 0-0 with Internacional on Wednesday, leading reporters to question the 28-year-old’s physical condition.
“We can’t take it out of the games so that it doesn’t lose rhythm. We need to be careful,” Júnior said, per Gazeta Esportiva.
“Yesterday he didn’t participate in training, and that sometimes complicates the performance, the movement. He depends a lot on that.
“I have no doubt that we will be able to take it in total conditions until the end of the year, until the moment of going to the World Cup.”
De Arrascaeta, along with all of the Mengão’s regular starters, will be rested for Saturday’s Brasileirão clash with Cuaibá.
Fringe players will be used for that game as Fla look to get their first-choice XI on the field for next Wednesday’s Copa do Brasil first leg against Corinthians.
Beyond that, there is the small matter of the Copa Libertadores final against Athletico Paranaense on 29 October.
