Borussia Dortmund are still in the race to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United after talks with the player’s representatives last week.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl held a meeting with Rashford’s camp in Germany last week to discuss the prospect of signing the 27-year-old.
However, Sky Germany are reporting that a deal remains ‘very difficult’. Rashford’s current wages are out of reach for Dortmund and the overall financial package is ‘too expensive’ for the Bundesliga side at this stage. Dortmund remain interested in reaching an agreement and have asked to be informed on developments regarding Rashford’s future.
The England international is viewed as a potential replacement for Donyell Malen, who has agreed a €30m move to Aston Villa. Malen is set to move to the Premier League after falling out of favour under new head coach Nuri Sahin this season.
Dortmund are not alone in their pursuit of Rashford with AC Milan pushing for a deal. The Rossoneri have ‘concrete’ interest in signing Rashford, who could join fellow Englishmen Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham at the San Siro. Napoli have also been named as a potential option amid Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s desire to leave the Italian side this month.
Rashford expressed his interest in leaving Manchester United after being dropped from the squad for the Manchester Derby. He has not appeared for the Red Devils since.
Speaking to journalist Henry Winter, he said he was ‘ready’ for a new challenge.
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.
“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse.
“I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
