Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is hopeful that Thomas Müller will be fit for Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Mainz, despite the 35-year-old struggling with illness this week.

At a press conference on Friday, the Bayern coach said he is optimistic that the experienced forward will rejoin the squad for the final training session before the game.

“Thomas Müller has been a bit ill, but I hope he can re-join training today and then be involved tomorrow. He wasn't involved the first three days this week. But Thomas has a lot of experience and mentality,” Kompany said at his pre-match press conference.

He went on to reveal that Raphael Guerreiro is also a doubt.

"We need to wait and see with Raphael Guerreiro. But otherwise it's been a good week. The guys have trained well," said Kompany.

With Bayern sitting eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, they could potentially secure the title this weekend. However, Kompany insists he remains focused solely on the upcoming match.

“I’ve only been preparing for the Mainz game. The match is the only thing that matters - the 90 minutes on the pitch. All other scenarios are not in my mind,” he stated.

Sitting alongside Kompany, Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl added:

"Bayern could be champions for the 34th time; me for the first time. I think things are being prepared in the background. But that's not on our minds."
