Durham saw off London City Lionesses to go level on points with leaders Birmingham City. Carly Johns’ opener for Durham was cancelled out by Izzy Goodwin close to half-time, only for Mollie Lambert to restore the advantage before the break on the rebound from a save by Grace Moloney. Beth Hepple extended the lead from the spot before Goodwin got her second for the visitors midway through the second half.

Bristol City won at Charlton Athletic to climb to third place, two points off the leading pair. Lexi Lloyd-Smith and Libby Bance had City two up in 17 minutes, Jade Hutton halving the deficit for the Addicks before the break.

Newcastle United found a very late equaliser to draw at home to Southampton. Freya Gregory struck seven minutes in for the Saints and it was the 99th minute before Deana Cooper rescued a point at St James’ Park.

Sunderland took the points with a victory away to Sheffield United to go fifth in the table. Libbi McIness hit the Blades’ bar, then with five minutes to go Ellen Jones played Katy Watson’s cross onto Eleanor Dale who fired under the keeper Sian Rogers.

Blackburn picked up a second win of the season, as they left newcomers Portsmouth winless in their first nine Championship games. Tyler Toland converted a 42nd-minute penalty and Maria Edwards made sure of the Rovers’ victory late on.
