Enzo Maresca has provided an update on Nicolas Jackson after the striker shared a post to social media suggesting a return could be closer than expected.
Chelsea suffered a major blow when Jackson picked up a hamstring injury in the win against West Ham on deadline day.
Maresca initially didn’t expect Jackson to be out for long, but the Blues were dealt a major blow when it was confirmed the 23-year-old would be sidelined until April.
The Senegal international started the season really well and has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 23 league appearances.
Jackson’s absence was compounded by the fact Marc Guiu also picked up an injury in the same game, leaving the Blues with no fit recognised striker.
Christopher Nkunku was tried down the middle, but has been heavily criticised for his performances, although Maresca now seems to have found a temporary solution.

Pedro Neto has been played down the middle for the last two Premier League games against Aston Villa and Southampton to great effect scoring once and providing two assists.
The Blues will hope Jackson returns as soon as possible with the striker a big miss, and he recently shared a post to his Instagram story, hinting a return could be sooner than expected.
However, Maresca has issued an update on Jackson’s situation ahead of the game against Leicester and shut down any notion of an early return.
“Nico has started to do some running outside which is good,” he said as quoted by Metro.

“But I don’t think there is any change with his status, we are still looking at after the international break for him [before returning].”
There is some good news on the injury front with Wesley Fofana available to face his former club Leicester on Sunday, whilst there’s a chance Romeo Lavia could be named on the bench.
