These days it feels like Erling Haaland breaks a new record every time he steps onto the pitch in the Premier League.

That’s an exaggeration, of course, but it happens with such regularity that you would almost believe it was true.

In his debut season in the English top-flight the Norwegian striker raised the bar by scoring more goals (36) in a single campaign than anyone had in the Premier League era.

Last November, Haaland scored his 50th goal – in his 48th game. It’s the quickest anyone has ever reached that milestone in the competition.

Heading into Saturday’s meeting with Brentford, the Man City star had already set the record for scoring the most goals in a team’s first three matches of a Premier League campaign with his seven goals. he netted his ninth goal after just four games.

By the end of the day Haaland had nine in four, breaking the record (8) set by Wayne Rooney for Manchester United in 2011-12. And he could have more before the game was over, too.

“The second showed what he is all about,” Jack Grealish said of his teammate after the final whistle. “He used his body well and a brilliant finish. It is a pleasure to play with him and hopefully he can continue.”

We are truly seeing goalscoring on a level we have never seen before.
