The 24-year-old’s current deal does not expire until 2027, but City have moved to agree fresh terms with the striker and he is now set to spend the majority of his career at the club.

Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half year deal, with it believed any release clauses included in his previous contract now removed.

While Haaland’s salary is unconfirmed, reports suggest that this contract is among the most lucrative in sporting history. According to Fabrizio Romano, a release clause will become active in 2029, but at a huge figure.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great Club,” Haaland said.

“Manchester City is a special Club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

“I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the Club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.

“I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”

Pep Guardiola signed a contract extension himself at City in November, which will see him stay at the club until at least the summer of 2027.

It is a significant show of confidence from Haaland in the club, who are still waiting to learn the outcome of their battle with the Premier League over alleged breaches of financial rules.

The hearing into the 115 charges began in September, with City also accused of not co-operating. City deny all charges and a verdict is expected this year.

Haaland now looks set to break a number of Premier League records over the next decade should he remain at the club for the duration of the deal.

Haaland has scored 79 Premier League goals in 87 appearances over two-and-a-half seasons in England and he will have his eyes set on those at the very top of the list.

Alan Shearer leads the way with 260 goals, ahead of Harry Kane on 213 and Wayne Rooney on 208. Mohamed Salah has the most of an active Premier League player, with 175 goals to his name.
