Everton welcome Southampton for a Premier League showdown on Sunday 18th May at 12pm (UK time).
There will be emotional scenes as Goodison Park hosts its final game, with the Toffees set to move to a new home at Bramley-Moore Dock for the 2025-26 season. This curtain closer will be screened live on TNT Sports.
I expect Everton to put on a show for their fans in their final game at Goodison. The Toffees could rack up the attempts on goal and the player I’m backing to hit the target is Doucoure. The 32-year-old has three goals in his last 11 league appearances, but when it comes to hitting the target he has done so at least once in five of his last six home games. Several firms have Doucoure priced at odds-on to record a shot on target, so take the much bigger offering of 11/8 with bet365.
After beating Derby’s point record of 11 points, Southampton may be a little more relaxed. I don’t see this being a heated fixture with both teams on the beach. A low card count looks likely here, and 11 of Southampton’s last 14 have three cards or fewer. Two of Everton’s last three have featured just one or zero cards, and with a celebratory atmosphere on Merseyside, 4/1 for Under 1.5 Cards looks to have more legs than the odds suggest.
Having lost eight of their opening 19 league matches this season, Everton languished in 19th place, only three points above the relegation zone. They parted company with Sean Dyche, subsequently reuniting with David Moyes, who inherited a side that had netted 17 goals (0.89 per game). His remit was maintaining the Toffees’ top-flight status, which he ultimately did with a few games to spare. Under his leadership, Everton have won six times while suffering four losses (seven draws), though they have only two wins in their past ten Premier League outings.
Southampton, meanwhile, were the first to have their relegation confirmed. Last week they achieved arguably their best result of the season by holding Manchester City to a goalless draw. That point means that Saints have now surpassed Derby County’s record low points total of 11, but all eyes will now be looking ahead to next season and bouncing straight back from the Championship.
Orel Mangala (knee), James Tarkowski (thigh), and Jesper Lindstrøm, who recently underwent hernia surgery, are three Everton players ruled out for the remainder of this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is doubtful, while there is no return date for Abdoulaye Doucoure, who is dealing with a personal matter.
There are no Southampton players currently reported injured or suspended. Interim manager Simon Rusk is expected to make few changes from last time out.
Southampton will seek to win a third straight meeting against Everton in all competitions, something they have never managed before. The Saints have won four of their last five matches against Everton (one loss).
