Txiki Begiristain was keen to pile on the praise personally to Omar Marmoush, upon welcoming the Egyptian forward to Manchester City for the first time last week.

The 60-year-old sporting director made the Egyptian international his most expensive recruit to date in the ongoing January transfer window, finalising an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt in the region of €75 million, according to reports.

Marmoush’s arrival has followed the likes of Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis in central defensive roles, while there remains a feeling in some quarters that Manchester City could yet venture back into the market for a full-back and central midfielder.

Manchester City supporters and some within the club have not hidden their delight at the arrive of one of German football’s very best goal contributors, and that includes the club’s director of football.

As captured by behind-the-scenes Manchester City cameras at the club’s training base last week, Txiki Begiristain was keen to tell Omar Marmoush of his belief when it comes to the 25-year-old’s standing in German football.

“We are taking the best player of the Bundesliga,” Begiristain told Marmoush upon the versatile forward arriving at the City Football Academy for the first time.

The outgoing Manchester City sporting director continued, “Every coach is saying the same, they’re saying, ‘Sign him! Sign him!'”

Omar Marmoush has since made his full Manchester City debut, offering a new dimension to the club’s attack in a dramatic 3-1 comeback win over Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

That win thrust Pep Guardiola’s squad into the Premier League’s top-four places, while Marmoush added an additional and much-needed flair and intensity to a somewhat stagnating creative set-up for Manchester City.

Some have been keen to point out similarities with Julian Alvarez in the way the 25-year-old has a relentless need to pressurise an opposition defence, while also not holding back when presented with an opportunity to strike at goal.
