Benjamin Pavard and Denzel Dumfries will have to play out of position in Wednesday’s Champions League match between Feyenoord and Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that an injury crisis at wingback will force the move.

Inter Milan are now dealing with a full-blown injury crisis.

The Nerazzurri went into Saturday’s top-of-the-table Serie A showdown with Napoli lacking options in the wide areas.

Before the match, all of Matteo Darmian, Carlos Augusto, and Nicola Zalewski were missing.

That left Inzaghi with just two senior wingbacks available against the Partenopei.

Then, Federico Dimarco was unable to play for more than a few minutes of the first half.

Tests today confirmed that Dimarco has suffered a thigh strain.

Pavard & Dumfries To Play Out Of Position In Feyenoord Vs Inter Milan Clash

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi put Benjamin Pavard onto the pitch as a substitute for Dimarco against Napoli.

And then the Nerazzurri coach tried out a couple solutions to cope with the fact that Denzel Dumfries was the only senior wingback he had available.

First, Inzaghi switched the shape to a 4-4-2. This saw Pavard and Benjamin Pavard as fullbacks in a back four, and Dumfries as an attacking winger on the right.

But after that caused the team to lose their tactical balance, Inzaghi reverted back to the familiar 3-5-2 shape.

Dumfries moved to the left, where he is not used to playing on his weaker foot. And then, Pavard pushed up to play as a wingback.

Against Feyenoord, Inzaghi will essentially have two options. Either try the 4-4-2 formation again, or play Pavard and Dumfries out of position.

And according to Tuttosport, the Inter coach will opt for the latter plan.
