Former Cagliari midfielder Andrea Capone has sadly been found dead at the age of 43, reports in Italy confirm.
His body was found in Palazzo Tirso in Cagliari on Sunday morning according to this afternoon’s reports from L’Unione Sarda.
Though an autopsy still needs to be carried out, the initial reports suggest that his death was accidental, possibly from a fall that proved to be fatal.
Capone had played for several Italian clubs across the pyramid, but is best remembered for his seven-year spell with his beloved hometown team, Cagliari.
He made 131 appearances for the Isolani, scoring 12 goals between the years 2000 and 2005. He also famously wore Gianfanco Zola’s old no.10 jersey when Cagliari were promoted to Serie A in 2005.
Across a 10-year professional career, Capone also had spells with Sora, Treviso, Vicenza, Grosseto and Salernitana, and also spent a few brief weeks on trial with Celtic in the summer of 2007.
