Lee Hendrie spoke exclusively to Football League World ahead of Sunday's EFL Trophy Final between Birmingham City and Peterborough United
Sky Sports pundit and former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has warned Birmingham City of two key Peterborough United threats ahead of this Sunday's EFL Trophy Final.
Birmingham will fancy their chances of claiming yet another crucial victory over Peterborough, having defeated Posh to officially seal promotion back to the Championship on Tuesday evening through goals from Alfie May and Taylor Garder-Hickman.
Securing promotion, and the league title, has long been a priority for Blues, although their focus will now be headed towards Sunday's Wembley showpiece after seeing off Bradford City, Stevenage and Swindon Town to make it to the final stage.
While Chris Davies' side head into the showdown as firm favourites, they will know not to underestimate Peterborough and have been handed a warning about the threats within their next opponents' ranks.
Peterborough may be all the way down in 16th in League One this season, but it's no secret that Darren Ferguson has a host of exciting attacking talent at his disposal.
That's something Hendrie is aware of. Speaking exclusively to Football League World, the pundit warned Blues about the threat of Ricky-Jade Jones and Mallk Mothersille in particular.
Jade-Jones, widely regarded among the fastest players in world football, is enjoying his best goalscoring campaign to date, having recorded 16 strikes across all competitions at the age of 22.
Mothersille, meanwhile - one year Jones' junior - is having something of a breakout campaign, registering 15 goals and nine assists in League One and the EFL Trophy.
"I certainly think that Ricky-Jade Jones and Mothersille are players that have thrived the last couple of seasons," Hendrie told FLW.
"They're the goal threats and the pacey, attacking players that can cause most teams problems. Eleven goals for Mothersille in the league, Jones has nine goals in the league.
"Both two talented young players that I've watched in the EFL and have proved they can be a real threat.
"I think the big occasion will suit exactly what Peterborough have with those two players because they can cause problems and score goals with their electric pace and getting in behind defences, which they have done this season."
Jones and Mothersille are two exciting talents who must be nullified if Davies' side are to reign victorious on Wembley Way. However, many would argue Posh's chief threat is no other than Kwame Poku, who has established himself as one of the very best players in the third-tier over the last two seasons.
The winger has only made 24 appearances this season through injury, but has tallied a remarkable return of 12 goals and eight assists from just 1871 league minutes.
His latest goal came against Blues on Tuesday, and Alex Cochrane will face a difficult task in trying to keep the tricky winger quiet this weekend.
