Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on whether Chris Wilder is feeling the pressure at Sheffield United
Lee Hendrie believes that Chris Wilder is feeling the pressure at Sheffield United amid their sudden run of poor form.
The Blades have fallen behind in the race for automatic promotion in recent weeks, losing three games on the spin.
This has caused the Yorkshire outfit to fall five points behind the top two, with losses to Millwall, Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle hurting their promotion hopes.
A boiling point was reached during the loss to the Pilgrims, in which Wilder was caught up in a brawl down the tunnel at Home Park with the Plymouth players.
Hendrie feels that Wilder is starting to suffer from the pressure of the promotion fight with recent results.
However, he’s claimed that the top two battle isn’t over yet, suggesting their upcoming game against Burnley could be an opportunity to go all out in attack to try and overturn this five-point gap.
“Yes, I think he is a little bit [feeling the pressure], but that’s just down to we are at the business end of the season where we are coming to a close, with four games left,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“And obviously it’s been between the top three clubs at the moment in the Championship, who have been battling it out pretty much most of the season.
“That two-point deduction was massive for Sheffield United. Some people might have said it could've bitten them.
“You do feel now it’s looking that way at the moment, but I think Chris has proved that he has, looks like he is under pressure.
“I think he’s got to find a way now of relieving that.
“They’ve obviously got a massive game against Burnley. I do feel that this isn’t quite over yet.
“I know Burnley have been relentless defensively and not conceded many goals, but I think Sheffield United will certainly have to go and attack them, which they’re capable of doing with the quality they have, and Chris, I think he just has to overcome that little bit of pressure that maybe he’s under.
“I think he’s done remarkable this season with the players and recruitment he’s brought in.”
Next up for Sheffield United is a home clash against Cardiff City on Friday evening in a 5.30pm kick-off, before they face Burnley on Monday.
All three of Burnley, Leeds United and Sheffield United have been pushing each other all the way in this promotion fight, leaving very little room for error.
But three defeats in a row have left the Blades cut adrift with only four fixtures left, and it’s no surprise that Wilder cracked after the Plymouth loss.
The pressure has got to him to an extent, but there is still time for the team to recover, but they need to win against Scott Parker’s side to have any chance of a top two finish.
