The Spaniard departed Albion for the top flight side in December, with the team sitting in the relegation zone.

However, a victory over Real Madrid last weekend saw the team move up to 14th in the standings, six points clear of the relegation zone with eight games still to play.

The victory has also extended their unbeaten run to five games, winning three, to put them safely ahead of the bottom three.

Carlos Corberan verdict

Goodman has claimed he’s not surprised by how well Corberan has done at Valencia, suggesting he was exactly what was needed to fix the team this season.

However, while he praised his impact in the Championship, he’s unsure whether the 42-year-old could make it work at a Premier League level.

“Carlos Corberan is excelling at Valencia, 13 La Liga games, six wins, four draws and only three defeats,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“And when you look at it, they lost to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid then you’re talking about the brilliant job Carlos Corberan has done.

“He is an absolute master at getting teams organised, hard working and hard to play against.

“And he’s proven that, he proved it at Huddersfield and he proved that at West Bromwich Albion.

“So a club like Valencia struggling at the bottom of La Liga, what do they need? They need somebody that can get them organised, hard working and hard to beat, and he’s precisely that, so shouldn’t be too surprised.

“But, at this stage of his career, do I see Carlos Corberan as a top Premier League manager? Then I’d have my reservations, but what an incredible job he’s done at Valencia.”

West Brom are currently eighth in the Championship table, three points behind sixth place Bristol City before their clash at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night.

West Brom have missed Carlos Corberan

While Tony Mowbray has come in to replace Corberan and done a solid job so far, losing the Spaniard has still hurt their promotion chances.

Under the 61-year-old, West Brom have won four of their 13 games, which has seen them fall out of the play-off places.

Injuries have hampered their progress as well, so it’s not all down to the manager, but Corberan’s work at Valencia goes to show the quality of coach that they’ve lost.
