Lee Hendrie feels that Danny Rohl is one of many prospective managers who could succeed on Southampton's budget
Ivan Juric hasn't been able to provide a much-needed turnaround since he replaced Russell Martin as Southampton manager.
TalkSport have reported that there is a break in his contract which states he can depart in the event of relegation, so the likelihood is that there will be a new man in the dugout at St Mary's in August.
Now, with the reported fee to bring Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl to Southampton standing at just £2 million if the Saints are to succumb to relegation, the expectation will be that Southampton will be attempting to bring yet another bright young manager to the club ahead of a Championship campaign.
The 35-year-old has impressed since taking over at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023 and, in an exclusive interview with Football League World, former Aston Villa man and Sky Sports pundit, Lee Hendrie feels that Rohl would excel at a club like Southampton, who will have the resources to help the promising manager reach the next level.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie feels that Danny Rohl has performed incredibly well on a small budget, and a move to a club such as Southampton - who will have plenty of cash to throw around next season - would attract the German.
"Danny Rohl has done brilliant things at Sheffield Wednesday and he has seemed to transform that football club," he said.
"The problem with managers who are at clubs who probably haven't got the capabilities to throw cash about, you start to think about how successful he's been on nowhere near the budget that some of these clubs have.
"It's no surprise that any manager who seems like they're doing a good job below [the Premier League] is linked, even if Southampton are likely going to end up in the Championship next season.
"It should definitely be something which Southampton should try and push for [given their] bigger budgets and better quality players, having played in the Premier League this season."
Alongside Danny Rohl, Lee Hendrie believes that Rob Edwards could come in and do a good job at Southampton.
Edwards struggled this season at recently relegated Luton Town, but does have experience in leading the Hatters to promotion two seasons ago - which will ultimately be the main goal for Southampton if they were to be in the Championship next season.
"Rob Edwards has capabilities of promotion and he's a really good guy on all basis," he said.
Despite this, Hendrie believes that there really will be "no doubt that [Rohl] will be in the equation for the Saints job" come the end of the season, and he backs the German to succeed at St Mary's Stadium.
"You speak to players who have worked or currently work with Rohl, and they say he's great to work under," Hendrie said.
Either way, if they are relegated, Southampton will need to bring someone in who will be able to overturn yet another squad and bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking yet again. Bringing in a promising manager worked in 2023/24...perhaps going down a similar route would work again in 2025/26.
