Sources with a close understanding of the situation have revealed to CaughtOffside that Chiesa is emerging as a target for AC Milan, along with three unnamed Premier League clubs.

The Italy international is understood to have been a target for Napoli during the January transfer window, but turned them down at the time.

Still, it now seems a return to Serie A could be an option for Chiesa again this summer as he’s continued to struggle to work his way into Arne Slot’s plans.

Chiesa had been keen to give his time at Liverpool more of a chance, but it now seems very clear that it’s just not working out for the 27-year-old.

Federico Chiesa transfer suitors emerging ahead of the summer

A return to Italy would surely make the most sense for Chiesa right now after his struggles in England, but it seems he could have opportunities to stay in the Premier League as well.

Chiesa previously shone at Juventus, even if he had some injury issues during his time there, so it’s easy to see why a big name like Milan might be willing to gamble on him.

It perhaps seems hard to imagine there’ll be too many clubs willing to pay that, so it will be interesting to see if LFC end up backing down a bit after negotiations.

Slot already has plenty of other options in his attack, such as Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, so there certainly seems little need to keep hold of Chiesa.

Some Reds fans will undoubtedly be disappointed that this deal couldn’t work out, however, as Chiesa looked like an exciting addition when he first joined.
