Italy are still in the mix for an additional spot in next year’s Champions League following Inter’s 2-1 victory over Feyenoord in the round of 16 second leg on Tuesday night, but the situation still requires either Spain or England to drop down the rankings if there is to be a fifth Serie A side in the competition next season.
Inter secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Feyenoord in the round of 16, including a 2-1 win in San Siro on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu.
The Nerazzurri are the only Serie A side remaining in the Champions League following the exits of Juventus, Milan, Atalanta and Bologna.
Having four teams out of the Champions League has put Italy at a disadvantage compared to England and Spain, who both still have three teams involved before Wednesday’s round of fixtures.
Including the Europa and Conference Leagues, there are four Italian teams remaining, while England and Spain have six apiece.

As things stand, England are on top of the UEFA season association coefficient with a score of 22.178, Spain are in second with 20.392, while Italy sit in third in 19.375.
