Fabrizio Romano shares LATEST on Trent Alexander-Arnold's PRIORITY | OneFootball

Liverpool's homegrown No66 is a talent that the world has rarely seen before, with the passing range of David Beckham and Kevin De Bruyne combined whilst playing at right-back.

Now into the last year of his contract, no one can stop thinking about how disastrous it would be if Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn't at the club next season.

Speculation around the Scouser's contract extension negotiations and potential moves elsewhere have been constant for months and yet we still are none the wiser.

He came out last month in an interview where he claimed that winning trophies is paramount to his future ambitions and so that will be what he will base his considerations on.

Additionally, it was reported that Trent is excited about the possibility of captaining Liverpool in the future, following in the footsteps of his hero Steven Gerrard.

And most recently he spoke to ITV Sport about his desire to look back at his career with pride, having made full use of the talent that has been bestowed on him, winning as much as possible, but fundamentally giving his all on the pitch to eventually retire with no regrets.

But none of this has resulted in any concrete movement in negotiations and fans are left reeling at the possibility that Trent can speak to other clubs about his future from January 1st.

Fabrizio teases Trent's priorities

In his Daily Briefing, Fabrizio Romano said: "I keep getting a lot of questions on Alexander-Arnold in particular, and it remains the case that Real Madrid keep following the situation.

“Real Madrid are very well informed, but it’s still not advanced in terms of any negotiations because the player’s priority is to discuss with Liverpool.”

Despite numerous links to other elite European clubs, it seems as though Trent is still looking to negotiate an extension in favour of searching elsewhere.

Paul Joyce wrote earlier this week in an article regarding Jarrell Quansah's contract extension and Ibrahima Konate's negotiations that the club's new sporting director Richard Hughes felt he inherited a difficult situation with the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk alongside Trent, and so cannot be held responsible.

And while the club is trying its best to ease the situation, the hierarchy is focused on securing players with more straightforward talks while the more complex issues have time to breathe.

But time is of the essence and if players are forthcoming in making things happen, then the opportunity cannot be wasted, and at just 26 years old, given the accolades Trent has won, it would be nothing short of disastrous if the player were to move on.

Real Madrid's interest in Trent will have peaked this week as their full-back Dani Carvajal tore three different knee ligaments in an injury which is set to keep him out for at least the next 12 months, so a replacement is certainly on their shopping list, and Jude Bellingham will be hoping to convince his fellow countryman of a move.
