FC Cincinnati have signed their Brandon Vazquez replacement in Corey Baird. The MLS free agent arrives in Cincinnati after spending his last few seasons with the Houston Dynamo. The 28 year old won a U.S. Open Cup with the Dynamo last season and is a former MLS Rookie of the Year back from his 2018 season. Last season with Houston, Baird played in a total of 48 games across all competitions. In those games, the former USMNT international scored 14 goals and had 8 assists. In his career, Baird has represented the Houston Dynamo, Real Salt Lake, LAFC, and Real Monarchs. In 184 career games, Baird has scored 36 goals and 28 assists.
With a major hole in the Cincinnati attack open, Corey Baird fills that well. 2023 once again gave us a highly effective Corey Baird in MLS action again. At this stage of his career, Baird seems like a perfect striker to pair next to a Designated Player and someone like Aaron Boupendza. Corey Baird will occupy space within the opposing team’s box. This will free up a potential high scoring attacker like Boupendza to score in bunches of the course of 2024.
