According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Porto are currently in talks to sign Ajax’s Jorge Sánchez. The Portuguese side are looking at a loan deal with the option to buy the Mexican right-back at the end of the season. Sánchez is said to be keen on the move despite links of a possible return to Mexico.
Ajax signed Jorge Sánchez from Club América last summer. During his first season in Amsterdam the 25-year-old defender featured 26 times in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists. In recent months the 36-time Mexico international has fallen down the pecking order at the Johan Cruyff Arena, and it’s unknown whether or not Maurice Steijn plans to utilise him this season.
FC Porto finished second in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season. They fell two points short of Benfica in the race for the title. Currently, Porto have two right-backs in their squad. João Mário (23) and Carraça (30). The signing of Sánchez would give them an extra option as they target their 31st league title.
