This would be a spectacular return: former star coach Felix Magath, who managed the likes of Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg, Schalke, Stuttgart and many more, wants to return to the football business by becoming the next club president of HSV.
Magath, who hasn't been with any club since June 2022, started his professional coaching career at HSV in 1995 - 30 years and multiple titles later, he wants to return to Hamburg in a different role.
While coaching was his main profession, Magath was already involved in different roles with different clubs: he was a board member at Schalke and the managing director at Wolfsburg. The 71-year-old also made headlines while being a Global Sports Director for Admira Wacker (in Austria) and Würzburger Kickers simultaneously.
The current club president of HSV, Marcell Jansen, is leaving the position in the summer after 6 years (including a small break). Magath is the 3rd person to candidate for the soon-to-be vacant position.
Should Magath become the next club president of HSV, he'd officially retire as a coach and won't look to manage another team again in the future. Maybe we will see Magath returning to the Bundesliga; it now only depends on the internal presidential election - and if HSV can manage to finally get promoted to the first tier of German football.
