Bruno Fernandes hailed Manchester United match-winner Amad Diallo as ‘unstoppable’ after the winger’s last-gasp goal to down Manchester City.
Diallo turned around the Manchester Derby in dramatic fashion, as United scored twice in two minutes late on to claim three points at the Etihad.
Trailing to a Josko Gvardiol header, Diallo was alert to intercept a poor backpass from Matheus Nunes and won a penalty after the midfielder brought him down in the box attempting to recover.
Fernandes slammed home the 88th-minute spot-kick before Diallo snatched a precious win for Ruben Amorim’s side moments later. Racing in behind to Lisandro Martinez’s lofted pass, a brilliant first touch took him round Ederson before he finished from a narrow angle.
Diallo has been a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing season for Manchester United and Fernandes was full of praise for his development this season. He said the 22-year-old has been doing ‘great things’ this season and can be ‘unstoppable’ when at his best.
“He has been doing well, he has been doing great things and there is a still a lot to come from him,” the Manchester United captain said speaking to Sky Sports about Diallo.
“He showed again today he is always alive. That is why he gets the penalty, why he gets the goal. He has been brilliant. When he is like this he is unstoppable.
“I just want him to keep working, that is what he has been doing. It is great what he did today but I am sure he can do this every week. We want this week in, week out. He is now getting his chances, deservedly.”
Fernandes kept his cool to level from the spot and said he works on calming himself in the pressure moments.
“It was a big chance when still 1-0 down. I just tried to lift the ball away from Ederson. A penalty is a moment of nerves. They are a big part of games. I am ready to calm myself down in big moments.”
