Feyenoord coach Brian Priske refuses to rule out Santiago Gimenez’s Milan transfer, saying he understands the player’s ambition to play for a top European club.

Milan are in advanced talks with Feyenoord to sign Gimenez, and according to the latest reports in Italy, the Rossoneri are confident of reaching an agreement with the Dutch side.

“As a coach, my task is to give my best with the players I have available,” Feyenoord coach Priske said at a press conference on Friday, as quoted by TMW.

“I have a perfect working relationship with directors and we are on the same page. Our sporting director does what is best for this club, even when it comes to the potential departure of Gimenez.

“I would love to keep Santi because he is a very good player,” Priske continued.

“I hope we can keep him, but it’s not just my decision. I understand that players have a lot of ambition. It’s part of football when players want to play in major competitions because ambition is important. The fuel for people in sports is fulfilling dreams, so I definitely understand Gimenez.”

Feyenoord will meet Milan in the Champions League knockout playoff, but the imminent Champions League meeting is not expected to hinder negotiations between the two clubs.

“I think it’s a great draw. It will be two very exciting matches,” said the Feyenoord coach.

“Milan are obviously an incredibly great club with a lot of history. I think everyone will be looking forward to those encounters, but for now, everyone is focused on the matches against Ajax and PSV.”

Gimenez has scored 16 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions with Feyenoord this season.

The Rossoneri are expected to make room for the Mexico international by sending Alvaro Morata to Galatasaray and Francesco Camarda on loan at Monza.
