The Champions League is back and Inter are preparing to play Feyenoord in the first leg of the Round of 16 which will be played in The Netherlands at de Kuip on Wednesday 5 March at 18:45 CET. The return leg will be played at San Siro on 11 March at 21:00 CET.

MATCH HISTORY

Inter vs. Feyenoord is not an unheard of meeting. The Nerrazzuri have played the Dutchmen four times, twice officially and twice in friendly tournaments. Both official matches were played in Europe's top competition when Feyenoord beat the Nerazzurri after two legs in the 2001/02 UEFA Cup (3-2 overall, 1-0 to Feyenoord in the first leg, 2-2 in the second leg). The other two friendly matches were in the first Mundialito in 1981 and then four years later, we met again in the Tournmant of the Dutch Antiles, back in 1985 in Curaçao, an island in the Caribbean Sea.

OPPOSITION: FEYENOORD

The side from Rotterdam, since Brian Prieske was relived of his duties, was temporarily coached by U21s Coach Pascal Bosschaart who guided the Dutch side to the Champions League Round of 16 after eliminating AC Milan in the play-off double header. Robin Van Persie has since been appointed and made his debut in the dugout on Saturday 1 March in a goalless draw with NEC in the Eredivisie. Van Persie began and ended his playing career with Feyenoord and fielded the 4-2-1-3 (4-2-3-1 off the ball) formation, rotating some players, though they have slipped to 4th in the table (on 44 points), overtaken by Utrecht. He used the midfield duo of Smal and Targhalline with Ivanusec behind the three forwards, Carranza in the centre up front and Paixao and Moussa on the wings. For the Eredivisie game, Moder and Milambo were out injured, together with unavailable Timber, Zerrouki, Stengs and Hwan. Against Inter, Givairo Read will definitely be out having been sent off against AC Milan.

  • Lautaro Martínez could become Inter's best goal scorer in Champions Cup/Champions League history. He is currently level with Sandro Mazzola on 17 goals.
