Fiorentina striker Albert Gudmundsson will be on trial in Reykjavik in his home nation of Iceland next week following a sexual misconduct complaint filed in relation to an incident that occurred in the summer of 2023, according to reports in Italy.
According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Gudmundsson was accused of sexual misconduct at an event in a nightclub in the Icelandic capital last summer.
He was not called up for Iceland’s national team squad for the games that came after the alleged incident, but he did return to the fold for EURO 2024 qualifiers against Israel and Ukraine in March. He scored four goals in those games, including a hat-trick against the former side.
Corriere dello Sport report that Gudmundsson was allowed to return to the national team set-up earlier this year, as the case had been dropped. However, an appeal filed by the accuser has since been accepted, which means that the courts will go ahead with a trial.
Gudmundsson is yet to make his debut with Fiorentina. Reports in recent weeks claim that he has been struggling with a calf issue.
The 27-year-old joined La Viola on loan with an option to buy from Genoa this summer. Fiorentina paid a fee of €8m to secure his services for the season, and will have an option, which could become mandatory, to make the move permanent for an additional cost of €17m plus €3.5m in bonuses.
