Flamengo right-back Rodinei, who is currently on loan at Internacional, had the opportunity to play football in Europe for the first time in his career this summer.
However, the Rubro-Negro board swiftly rejected the proposal back in August.
According to journalist Venê Casagrande and since confirmed by GloboEsporte, Turkish outfit Gençlerbirliği made an offer to bring the 28-year-old overseas.
Although heading to the Süper Lig would have likely piqued the player’s interest, Gençlerbirliği’s proposal came in the form of a loan deal which caused Flamengo to quickly turn it down as he is already out on loan.
Furthermore, in July, Inter and Flamengo agreed to extend Rodinei’s loan spell until May 2021.
Had a purchase offer come in, Inter would have had the right to match any offer and purchase the player outright themselves. Inter also have a €4m option-to-buy at the conclusion of the loan.
Rodinei started the 2020 campaign as Inter’s starting right-back but a series of questionable performances led Inter to bring in Renzo Saravia on loan from Porto.
